とはいえ

Acknowledges the preceding fact but adds a reservation showing that it is not enough to determine the conclusion.

Examples

準備は整ったとはいえ、最後の確認は必要だ。

Although preparations are in place, a final check is still necessary.

簡単な作業とはいえ、確認は必要だ。

Although it is a simple task, it still needs to be checked.

春とはいえ、山頂にはまだ雪が残っている。

Although it is spring, snow still remains on the summit.

Structure: とはいえ accepts a fact while adding a reservation to the conclusion it might readily suggest.
Basic usage: 春とはいえ、山頂にはまだ雪が残っている。 accepts that it is spring but adds that snow remains on the summit.

Concession versus denying a description
- 簡単な作業とはいえ、確認は必要だ accepts that the task is simple. 簡単な作業とは言えない says it is difficult to describe the task as simple, so its conclusion differs from the concession with とはいえ.
