• Basic usage: It gives a few representative items among several possibilities in conversation. The list is not necessarily exhaustive.

• Role of the following particle
  • In 映画とか音楽とかが楽しみです, が connects the whole list as the subject. とか alone does not determine every grammatical role in the sentence.
  • In 旅行の話とかを聞かせて, を marks the content to be told.
• Different from an alternative question
  • A list with とか does not require choosing exactly one item. Distinguish it from 〜か〜か, which asks which alternative applies.
• Compared with と and や
  • と groups items together, and や can also list representative examples. とか particularly conveys the casual presentation of examples in everyday conversation.
