Examples

友人が手伝ってくれたおかげで、引っ越しが早く終わった。

Thanks to my friend's help, the move was finished early.

早く出発したおかげで、渋滞に巻き込まれなかった。

Thanks to leaving early, we did not get caught in traffic.

Structure: Use おかげで after a plain clause or a form such as a noun followed by の to positively credit a cause for a good result.
Basic usage: 友人が手伝ってくれたおかげで、引っ越しが早く終わった。 credits the friend's help for the move finishing early.

Evaluation through the result
- In 雨のおかげで庭が潤った, rain is a beneficial cause. The same rain is presented as causing an unfavorable result in 雨のせいで試合が中止になった.
Noun attachment and an appreciative formula
- A noun takes の, as in 友人のおかげで. おかげさまで元気です is an appreciative formula in a reply about one's well-being, unlike a sentence identifying a particular source of help.
