2. Common pitfalls and similar expressions
- Neither an upper nor a lower limit
五キロぐらいmeans neither no more than five kilograms nor at least five kilograms. The actual value may be slightly higher or lower.
- Duration and point in time
一時間ぐらいis a duration of about an hour, while一時ごろis a point in time around one o'clock. Do not substituteごろdirectly for an approximation of duration.
- Relation to くらい
くらいis also used for this quantity-estimating function; the sound difference alone does not determine a different level of precision.
